1916

Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding & Engineering Co.,Ltd expanded its business to car manufacturing.

1918

Collaborated with British automaker Wolseley Motors Ltd.

1922

Launched the production of the Wolseley A9 - first passenger vehicle ever made in Japan.

1927

Discontinued the Wolseley joint venture.

Started the production of “Sumida”, the first vehicle of our own design.

1929

Changed the car’s division name to Ishikawa Automotive Works Co.,Ltd.

1933

Introduction of the Government Standard Model, called ISUZU.

Ishikawa Automotive Works Co. Ltd consolidated with DAT Automobile Manufacturing into Automobile Industries Co.,Ltd.

1934

The truck manufactured up to Ministry of Trade and Industry standards was named “Isuzu”.

Development commences on Isuzu’s first diesel engines.

1936

Launching of the Isuzu DA4 and DA6 diesel engines production, the first Isuzu diesel engines, and Japan’s first air-cooled diesel engines.

1937

Automobile Industries Co.,Ltd. merged with Tokyo Gas & Electric Co. to form the company called Tokyo Automobile Industries Co.

 

1949

Changed the company name to ISUZU Motors Limited.

The first overseas operation of ISUZU began, with the first vehicles exported to Hong Kong.

1961

The passenger car ‘Bellel’ was introduced to the market.

1963

Bellet passenger car and the KR compact truck WASP were unveiled.

1968

Introduced the passenger car 117 Coupe.

1972

The KB 1-ton payload compact truck “Faster” was released.

1974

Gemini, the first automobile to be produced in cooperation with GM, was introduced.

1980

Revealed the WFR Fargo series of wagons and vans.

1981

The passenger car “Piazza” was unveiled.

 

1981

“UBS Rodeo Bighorn”, the compact four-wheel drive vehicle was introduced.

1985

Launching of “FF Gemini”.

1989

Introduced “the MU”, a new type of recreational vehicle, in Japan and the U.S.A. (Amigo)

1990

Began the production of Rodeo (4-door UCS) at the SIA plant, U.S.A.

1991

Introduction of Rodeo in the U.S. market.

The full model change of the Trooper.

1993

The triumph of UCS (Mu) in the Paris-Dakar Rally in diesel class.

1994

Trooper took victories at the 1994 Paris-Dakar-Paris rally – the winner of Marathon Class and Mixed Class, and the second place in the non-modified stock-standard class.

1996

Trooper (Holden Jackaroo) took the prize in the 1996 Australian Safari.

1997

Unveiled “VehiCROSS”, the all-round sport-utility vehicle, in Japan.

1998

The full remodel of Wizard and Mu.

1999

Launched VehiCROSS in the U.S. market.

2002

Duramax 6600 marked double achievements being chosen as one of the 10 best engines by Ward’s Communications in the U.S.A.

The total change of Isuzu Pickup in Thailand into the D-Max as the collaboration of Isuzu and General Motors.

2003

Started the Isuzu D-Max shipment to overseas markets.

2004

DMAX Ltd. (DMAX), which has started diesel engine production in 2000, rolled out its 500,000th one.

Isuzu mu-7 Sport Utility Wagon was introduced.

2006

Isuzu and Toyota made business collaboration through basic agreement on the development of the small diesel engines.

2007

Isuzu U.S. engine plant DMAX produced the 1 millionth diesel engine.

2011

Full model change of Isuzu pickup truck in Thailand.

2013

Isuzu introduced the Isuzu mu-X to the world.

2019

Isuzu D-MAX has a full model change for the first time in 8 years.

2020

Global launch of the new Isuzu mu-X in Thailand.
